The Mexican Revolution in 1910 ended dictatorship in Mexico and established a constitutional republic. Probably the most significant war in Mexico's history, this war was to protect the middle class from the dictator President Porfirio Diaz.
Also, in 1910 President William H. Taft started the American Tradition of the President throwing out the first ball at a baseball game. Before Judy Garland stole our hearts as Dorothy, the first film adaptation of Frank L. Baum's classic was a silent film in 1910.
The sewing machine was built forever changing how our clothes are made, speeding up the process and eventually leading to mass production of garmets. It changed fashion.
The "Unsinkable" Titanic sunk in 1912. Arizona became the 48th State, and since the creation of the sewing machine; Zippers are introduced into clothing. The Panama Canal was completed in 1913. Ford Motor Company introduced the moving assembly line. Everything in our lives changed in this decade.
We also saw our very first World War. Ireland was on the brink of a Civil War. Warfare changed in 1915 with the first use of Poisonous Gas to the first use of Tanks in war. The United States entered the war in 1917, forever changing America as we knew it. For the first time we saw women in the work force. With all the men gone to war, the women were left to support their families. There was a high demand for weapons, and women were recruited to do work that was normally considered "mens work". Women were paid far less wages, and this led to fighting for womens rights!
